2010 Joop Swart Masterclass

The 17th edition of the annual masterclass brought masters and young photographers together for a week in Amsterdam.

In spring 2010, an international committee surveyed portfolios submitted by over 162 nominated photographers and selected 12 young photographers to participate in the 17th Joop Swart Masterclass. Each of the 12 photographers was asked to prepare a photo essay on the theme Persistence for the masterclass, held in Amsterdam from 29 October until 4 November. During the masterclass, the participants had the chance to discuss their work in detail with six leading professionals. The masters spoke and gave presentations on their particular fields, and led in-depth discussions on other aspects of photojournalism.

The 17th edition of the Joop Swart Masterclass is supported by two leading sponsors: Stichting Democratie en Media and the Delta Lloyd Group. The former aims to promote independent media in democratic societies, the latter is a financial institution known for the exceptional use of visuals in its corporate communications and its enthusiasm in supporting young talent. Promoting excellence in photography is something we share with our corporate sponsor Canon, who have supplied the participants with equipment.
