Third Annual World Press Photo Multimedia Contest

contest categories

World Press Photo is committed to providing a platform for innovative practice in the field of visual journalism. Photography is converging with other lens-based media. Documentary storytellers around the world are producing exciting work, which complements our established photo contest. With this in mind, World Press Photo has recently established a multimedia contest. There will be three categories in the 2013 multimedia contest:

Online Short
A film with a journalistic approach that was produced for the web and lasts no longer than 12 minutes. The production must include photography and/or film in combination with (but not limited to) animation, graphics, illustrations, sound, or text. Key to this report about a planned or unplanned news event is its news value and narration building, along with a proficient use of visual and other elements.

Online Feature
A feature film with a documentary storyline that was produced for the web. The production must include photography and/or film in combination with (but not limited to) animation, graphics, illustrations, sound, or text. The focus of this feature is skillful storytelling with a strong narrative, competently executed using visual and other elements.

Interactive Documentary
An online interactive story or project. Productions must include photography and/or film in combination with (but not limited to) animation, graphics, illustrations, sound, or text. The documentary should employ interactivity, navigation, and design to create an inspired, visual user-experience that tells an original story with lasting impact.
