The Awards Days is a celebration to honor the prizewinners of the 57th World Press Photo Contest and 4th Multimedia Contest. The event is filled with activities, including presentations, discussions about issues in the photographic industry, exhibitions and the Awards Ceremony. This year’s Awards Days will include events at two new locations: Compagnietheater and De Nieuwe Kerk.

The 2014 Sem Presser Lecture will be given by fine art photographer Edward Burtynsky and is titled “Consuming Nature.”

Registration for the Awards Days is now closed. Due to the limited capacity of our venues, attendance is by invitation only. If you are a relation of World Press Photo and have not yet received an invitation, please send an email to with your name, professional affiliation, and country of residence. If your request is accepted, you will receive a personal invitation and a link to our registration website.

On show: 2014 World Press Photo exhibition
World Press Photo 14 will open on 18 April where the work of all 53 award-winning photographers will be on display. The 2014 exhibition in Amsterdam will also feature all of the winners of the 4th Multimedia Contest.

On show: 20 years of the Joop Swart Masterclass
The masterclass holds a unique place within the World Press Photo Academy. To mark its 20th year we present a slideshow of photo essays submitted by all 238 participants since 1994. With work by João Silva, Jodi Bieber, Paolo Pellegrin, Stephan Vanfleteren, Tim Hetherington, Lynsey Addario, Moises Saman, Stephanie Sinclair, Jehad Nga, Muhammed Muheisen and many others.

Members of our exhibition department talk and answer questions about organizing the World Press Photo exhibition.

Security and safety issues in (photo)journalism, Small Auditorium
In the past decade, more than 600 journalists have been killed while exercising their profession. Many more were injured, attacked, imprisoned, kidnapped or suppressed while exercising their critical role in society. During this session, various safety and security issues faced by journalists working in conflict zones will be discussed, as well as ways for the industry to help prevent and reduce dangers to media workers in such situations.

The manipulation of images poses a major challenge for the credibility of photojournalism, and this year World Press Photo took new steps to deal with the issue in relation to the contest. This session will discuss these procedures as well as how members of the photojournalism community think the challenges of manipulation should be understood and handled.

What does the perfect multimedia team look like? Are there strategies for modest production environments?

Awards Ceremony
The prizewinning photographers of the 57th World Press Photo Contest and the winners of the 4th World Press Photo Multimedia Contest will receive their awards and HRH Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands will present John Stanmeyer with the World Press Photo of the Year 2013 Award.
