Nick Ut (UT CONG HUYNH) (Vietnam), joined the Associated Press in Saigon in 1966 and covered the later years of the Vietnam war. After the war he continued to work for the Associated Press in Tokyo, then, in 1977, he was transferred to Los Angeles. It was on June 8, 1972 that Ut photographed nine year old, Kim Phuc, running and screaming naked down route 1. The shot won every major photographic award in 1973, including the Pulitzer Prize, the George Polk Memorial Award, the Overseas Press Club and the National Press Club.
