Sadayuki Mikami (Japan) joined Tokyo Photos as an assistant darkroom technician in 1969. He was promoted to staff photographer there in 1975. Over the course of his career, Mikami has covered many Asian stories including the Tiananmen crackdown and the pro-democracy uprising in Gwangju during the pre-democracy era in South Korea. He has also covered three Olympic Games in Sapporo, Los Angeles, and Seoul, and three G7 Summit meetings in Tokyo, Venice, and Birmingham. In 1990 he joined the Gulf War photo coverage team of Tokyo Photos and, in 1992, he was promoted to their desk editor.
