Paolo Woods, of Canadian and Dutch parentage, grew up in Italy and now lives in Paris. Paolo Woods worked as a photographer in advertising and fashion before dedicating himself to reportage in 1998. He has taken pictures in Italy, Haiti, Vietnam, Morocco, Egypt, Kosovo Albania, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. In 2003, with the journalists Serge Michel and Serge Enderlin, he produced the book Un monde de Brut for Le Seuil (Paris), on the subject of oil, which took him to Angola, Russia, Kazakhstan and Iraq. In 2004, again for Le Seuil, and working with Serge Michel, he produced the book American Chaos, a detailed reportage on Afghanistan and Iraq. Both books have also been published in Italy. His photographs have appeared in Time, Newsweek, Stern, le Monde and many other international publications. He has received various prizes for his work, including the Alstom Prize for Journalism and the Media North-South prize.
