Born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Paul Vreeker started as a junior photographer with a local newspaper on his sixteenth birthday. In the following years, he worked for several papers and magazines and also did advertising photography. In 1982 Paul started working for ANP, the Dutch National Press Agency. In the 19 years he worked there, he covered major sports events such as the Olympics and World and European Championships as well as the state visits of the Dutch royal family and general news stories. In May 2001, he started to work as a freelancer, mainly for the national newspaper Algemeen Dagblad and Reuters.
