Janine Haidar is co-responsible for the photo production of Agence France-Presse in Baghdad. She left her native country Lebanon with her parents after their home was destroyed in the civil war. In 1986, after her studies at Canterbury University in the UK, she returned to Lebanon to work as editor and was put in charge of the photo department at the Associated Press. Back in the UK after the war, she joined a small photo agency specializing in royalty and pop stars. Around 1992 Haidar rejoined AP, moving from the photo desk in London to the editing team at the New York HQ, where she worked mostly on Central and Latin American stories. She has been with AFP since 2001, at their Middle East headquarters in Cyprus, in Jerusalem, and now in Iraq. When necessary, she helps out as a shooter.
