Rodrigo Abd, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, first worked as staff photographer for the newspapers La Razon and La Nacion capturing local situations and events. In 2003, he joined the Associated Press as staff photographer based in Guatemala. In addition to his work in Guatemala, his assignments have also included the resignation of Bolivia's president and the Haitian political crisis. His work has received several awards, including the Sigma Delta Chi in 2003, first place for Outstanding Photo Essay in the National Award 2004 and the 2004 Clarion Award for his compelling series Culture of Violence. His work with Guatemalan gangs entitled ‘Maras' earned him the 2005 POY Award.
