Martin Roemers Martin Roemers
Martin Roemers has a fascination for war and peace. He has followed the Dutch military in Afghanistan and the Balkans, and his collection of photos entitled Between Hostile Neighbours, taken in Bosnia, is one of a number of books to his name. In 2004, Martin started work on a collection of portraits of World War Two veterans. The project expanded as a result of Martin's desire to include veterans from all the countries involved in the war. He has also interviewed the veterans so as to supplement the photographs with the stories behind the people. Martin has long been developing a personal project Relics of the Cold War, and is continually seeking places that are silent witness to a period gone by. Martin's work has been published in the International Herald Tribune, The New York Times, The Independent, The Times, Zeitung, Der Spiegel, Focus, Die Zeit, de Volkskrant, Trouw, NRC Handelsblad, and Vrij Nederland, amongst others. His work has also been displayed in exhibitions in Germany, Russia and the Netherlands.
