Mattia Insolera was born in Bologna, Italy, in 1977. After studying criminology, he worked for the Municipality of Bologna as director of a photographic workshop set up to counter the marginalization of drug addicts and young migrants. At the same time, he worked as photographer in the music business. In 2005 Insolera joined the Grazia Neri photo agency, working on features stories and magazine assignments. His photos have been published in Io Donna, D la Repubblica delle Donne, Vogue, The Financial Times, and Esquire, among others.
In 2007 he moved to Barcelona, where he attended a postgraduate course in photojournalism and worked with the Spanish newspaper El Periodico. Insolera won the Italian Canon award in 2003, the European Talent Latent FNAC prize in 2005, and the Biennal de Fotografia in Girona prize in 2009. His pictures are in the permanent collection of the Nicéphore Niépce museum in Chalon-sur-Saône, France.
