Ali Akbar Shirjian (27), Iran, was born in Tehran and works there
as a freelance photographer. He is largely self-taught, though holds a
diploma from the Khane Akasan Iran (Iranian Photographers' Center). Ali
began his career in theater photography, later branching into news. In
2004 he became a photographer with Hamshahri, a major Iranian daily
newspaper, later moving to documentary photography and going freelance.
His work appears in publications across Iran, and has formed
part of exhibitions in Iran and Venice. Ali's awards include a first
prize in the 2008 Photography Biennial of the Islamic World.
