World Press Photo held its annual Joop Swart Masterclass between 31 October and 5 November.
Program
Earlier this year, an international committee surveyed portfolios
submitted by over 179 pre-selected nominees, and came up with the
twelve young photographers who participated in this year's Joop Swart
Masterclass. Each was asked to prepare a photo essay on the theme
Touch. The result was an intriguing variety of angles on the theme.
During the masterclass, participants had the chance to discuss their
work in detail with six leading professionals. The masters spoke and
gave presentations on their particular fields, and lead in-depth
discussions on other aspects of photojournalism
Over the course of the masterclass, participants made a personal edit
of their images for our website. You can view individual galleries by
clicking on a participant's name to the left. In addition, a selection
of images from the participants' stories was published in a photo book,
Touch, which is available from our online bookstore.
Sponsors
The 16th edition of the Joop Swart Masterclass is supported by two
leading sponsors: Stichting Democratie en Media and the Delta Lloyd
Group. The former aims to promote independent media in democratic
societies, the latter is a financial institution known for the
exceptional use of visuals in its corporate communications, and its
enthusiasm in supporting young talent. Promoting excellence in
photography is something we share with our corporate sponsor Canon, who
have supplied the participants with equipment. | © Co de Kruijf / Hollandse Hoogte Masters:
