It was early evening. Troops of Second Platoon, Battle Company, US 503rd Airborne Battalion, had spent an intense day of fighting in the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan. Hetherington, embedded with the platoon, captured their overwhelming sense of fatigue as a soldier slumped against sandbags in a bunker.
