Hanging in Iran

12 October 2011

Khomeinishahr, Iran

A crowd of thousands gathers to watch the execution of a group of convicted rapists, at a public park. Public executions in Iran are usually conducted as punishment for murder or rape, though lesser crimes, such as fraud, can also incur a death sentence. Iran is alleged to have the second-highest execution rate in the world after China, but supplies no official figures for hangings.
