Swinging is sexual activity that can involve partner-swapping, group sex, or sex with your own partner in other people's presence. There are swinger clubs across Denmark, some on former farms in the countryside, others in the suburbs. Windows are covered with black paint or veiled by dark curtains. Inside the club, people pay an entrance fee, undress, store their clothes in lockers, and go to a bar or common room to meet, talk, or have a drink with others - and then, maybe, to have sex. Rooms have different purposes: one is for tantric sex, perhaps, one for S&M; there's a doctor's room, and a darkroom. In swinger clubs, people aim to explore their own sexuality and inhibitions, visiting singly or with a partner.

A code of rules governs what goes on in the clubs. Nobody touches anyone else without having established relations or making an agreement beforehand. You do not join in with other people's sexual acts without an invitation; you always wear protection, and always take no for an answer. In this way, people try to make sex less complicated.
