Rome, Italy
Angela is six years old. She was born and has grown up in a little shack beneath a bridge of the ring road, on the outskirts of Rome. The ‘garden’ of her house is a small swamp created by the Aniene River, which runs in front of the shack. She lives there with her parents: Italian Piero and Russian Luba. The swamp was considered a zone that ought to be protected because of its fauna, which includes particular species of foxes and birds. But all attempts to designate it a nature reserve have failed, and its fragile environment has been left with no official protection.
