The results of this year’s World Press Photo Contest will be announced on Friday, 10 February 2012 at 11.00 a.m. (C.E.T.) during a press conference at the Boekmanzaal in the Amsterdam City Hall, Amstel 1. Following the announcement, the complete winners’ gallery will be published on this website.

The results of the 55th annual World Press Photo Contest will be announced on Friday, 10 February 2012 at 11.00 a.m. (C.E.T.) during a press conference at the Boekmanzaal in the Amsterdam City Hall, Amstel 1. Following the announcement, the photos will be published on this website.

Aidan Sullivan, vice president of photo assignments for Getty Images, will chair the 2012 World Press Photo Photo Contest jury. He takes over the task from David Friend who has been forced to pull out for medical reasons.

World Press Photo is now accepting entries for the 2012 contest for the best multimedia storytelling in visual journalism. Organized for the second time, this year’s contest is open for photographers, publications and multimedia producers to enter their work to be judged by an international, nine-member jury of experts.

World Press Photo invites all press photographers and photojournalists around the world to participate in the 55th World Press Photo Contest. The annual Photo Contest is the largest contest in the world for professional press photographers and photojournalists. The 2012 World Press Photo Contest is now open for entries.

World Press Photo and Human Rights Watch are pleased to announce that the American photographer Stephen Ferry has been awarded the first Tim Hetherington Grant, set up to celebrate the legacy of the photojournalist and filmmaker killed in Libya earlier this year. The annual grant of €20.000 was given for Ferry’s project “’Violentology: A Manual of the Colombian Conflict”, chosen by a selection committee from among 222 applications by photographers of 56 nationalities.

World Press Photo is proud to announce the jury chairs for the specialized categories in the 2012 photo contest: Steve Pyke (Portraits), Joel Sartore (Nature) and Koji Aoki (Sports). David Friend will chair the overall final jury, as well as the first round of the News and Documentary category. Following the photo contest in February, the second multimedia contest will be judged in March, and will be open for entries by participants themselves.

World Press Photo and Human Rights Watch announced that they have set up a joint initiative to honor the late Tim Hetherington. The first recipient of the Tim Hetherington grant will be announced on 7 November.

Today World Press Photo has launched a new website as a step forward in its strategy to invest in online initiatives to fulfill its mission. Under the motto: 'We exist to inspire understanding of the world through quality photojournalism', the new site is designed to showcase the award-winning photography in a wider context than before, and also to provide a platform for educational resources and publishing activities under the new Academy section.
