World Press Photo: New Stories is a showcase for the power of visual storytelling and a celebration of world photography. The photo book presents documentary stories made by ten young photographers from around the world.

The book Hekayat: Picture stories from the Middle East features the work of six photographers who took part in a World Press Photo training program in the Middle East and North Africa region.

Things as They Are tells the story of modern photojournalism from The Family of Man and the heyday of Life magazine in 1955 to the era of the camera-phone in the present day.

For the 17th Joop Swart Masterclass, each of the 12 participants produced a photo essay on the 2010 theme, Persistence. An edit of these essays has been published in a hardcover photo book entitled Persistence.

Participants in the 15th Joop Swart Masterclass each produced a photo essay on the 2008 theme, Balance. An edit of these essays has been published in a hardcover photo book, entitled Balance.

Before coming to attend the masterclass in Amsterdam, the 12 participants submitted a photo essay on the 2007 theme, Fragile. An edit of each story was made for a photo book, which this year comes restyled in hardcover, with more pages and more photos than previous years.

In November 2003, the Joop Swart Masterclass was held for the tenth time. The end of the masterclass’s first decade is an appropriate moment to look back on ten years of working with top talent in global photojournalism.
