2022 Contest: Online information sessions

All information sessions for the 2022 World Press Photo Contest have now taken place. During these webinars, industry experts and World Press Photo staff members gave tips and answered questions about how to enter the contest, as well as provided information about the changes for the 2022 edition.

Expert talk: Webinar and Q&A with former winners and jury members

This webinar was for photographers who would like to get more background information on how to prepare to enter the 2022 World Press Photo Contest. 

Four professionals in the field of photojournalism and documentary photography talked about our new contest format and shared their insights on how to best prepare your entry. Below you can find recordings of highlights from each of the speakers, as well as the Q&A and full webinar. 

Program and speakers
Davina Jogi, Zimbabwe, documentary photographer, founder and co-director of the Zimbabwe Association of Female Photographers (ZAFP), and former World Press Photo Contest jury member, gave advice about how to enter the contest from the jury perspective.

Cristobal Olivares, Chile, documentary photographer and 2021 World Press Photo Digital Storytelling Contest winner, provided information for entrants who are considering entering the new Open Format category.

Alisa Martynova
, Russia, freelance photographer and 2021 World Press Photo Contest winner, gave tips to participants regarding photography aesthetics and composition.

Below you can find the question and answer section of the Expert talk. The questions that are answered are: 

  • Is it possible to enter images without a model release?
  • Can I submit my images when I no longer have the RAW files?
  • Do entries need to be published in order to be viable to enter the competition?
  • Can I enter pictures that I have taken in 2020?
  • How does World Press Photo check for manipulation of the images?
  • Why did World Press Photo decide to add more context to the image during the judging?

Regional information sessions: Africa
3 and 17 December 2021

During these events, our outreach coordinators on the African continent talked you through the key steps for entering the 2022 World Press Photo Contest. The presentations were be hosted in English, French and Portuguese.

Topics discussed included the World Press Photo Contest’s new regional model, categories, prize package, judging process and how to enter. There was also room for questions.

World Press Photo staff members were available on Zoom to answer any questions regarding the 2022 Contest. Calls were be hosted in English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Portuguese. See more information below.

An open Zoom call for everyone who considers to enter the 2022 Contest and any questions you may have about it. Maybe you need more explanation about entry rules or about the platform Picter, or you may have a specific technical question or just a comment to make? Anything is welcome to discuss so we can assist you personally to enter the contest smoothly.
