Prizes
The 2021 Digital Storytelling Contest has three categories: Interactive, Long and Short. There are three prizes in each category.

Whilst the Long and Short categories reward winners with first, second, and third prizes, recognition in the Interactive category is achieved differently. The constant development in media and technology is celebrated through three equally-weighted awards, and given the diversity of interactive formats, the jury chooses the approaches they wish to acknowledge as outstanding.

Three nominees in each category will receive:

  • Publication in World Press Photo’s online collection
  • A personal profile on World Press Photo's website
  • Promotion on World Press Photo's platforms
  • Inclusion in those World Press Photo exhibitions that feature the Digital Storytelling Contest
  • Inclusion in international media coverage of the contests
  • Invitation to a small online festival including the winners announcement, presentations, and networking opportunities for the winners to connect to industry professionals

In addition, nominees are often featured in major media and invited to speak at public events, exhibition openings, and lectures throughout the year.

An international jury selects the World Press Photo Interactive of the Year and the World Press Photo Online Video of the year

The annual Digital Storytelling Contest has two headline awards: the World Press Photo Interactive of the Year and the World Press Photo Online Video of the Year. Each of these awards carry a cash prize of 5,000 euros.

The World Press Photo Interactive of the Year award celebrates the production that creates engaging interactive storytelling, through skilful editing and design, and effective synergy of form and content.

The World Press Photo Online Video of the Year award celebrates a video produced for the web, which through skilful editing and audio-visual design, tells a compelling story with an impact
