Prizes

The 2020 Digital Storytelling Contest has three categories: Interactive, Long and Short. In each category there are three prizes.

Whilst the Long and Short categories reward winners with first, second, and third prizes, recognition in the Interactive category is achieved differently. The constant development in media and technology is celebrated through three equally-weighted awards, and given the diversity of interactive formats, the jury chooses the approaches they wish to acknowledge as outstanding.

Three nominees in each category will receive:

  • Inclusion in the World Press Photo exhibitions featuring the Digital Storytelling Contest
  • A diploma and Golden Eye Award, presented at the annual Awards Ceremony during the World Press Photo Festival in Amsterdam. A representative from each of the nominated productions will get an invitation, return airfare, and hotel accommodation for the annual networking event, the World Press Photo Festival.
  • In addition, nominees are often featured in major publications and invited to speak at public events, exhibition openings, and lectures throughout the year.

An international jury selects the World Press Photo Interactive of the Year and the World Press Photo Online Video of the year.

The World Press Photo Interactive of the Year award celebrates the production that creates engaging interactive storytelling, through skilful editing and design, and effective synergy of form and content.

The World Press Photo Online Video of the Year award celebrates a video produced for the web, which through skilful editing and audio-visual design, tells a compelling story with an impact.

To put the spotlight on the stories that matter, the World Press Photo Foundation will award a ‘World Press Photo Interactive of the Year’ and a ‘World Press Photo Online Video of the Year’. Both awards carry a cash prize of 10,000 euros. A representative will receive return airfare and hotel accommodation for travel to Amsterdam for the World Press Photo Festival.
