She worked as a photographer for the Associated Press in Paris, an editor for Agence France-Presse in Paris and New Delhi, and a picture editor and photographer for Reuters in London, Paris, and Baghdad.
In 2008, she joined the European Pressphoto Agency as a picture editor on the Frankfurt news desk. In 2010, she was selected for the then newly-established position of Chief Editorial Operations Middle East based in Cairo. Amel took part in the World Press Photo Foundation's ‘Reporting Change ’, and was selected as one of the North Africa masterclass masters.
