Amel Pain was raised in Algeria before moving to France, to the United States, then later to France and starting her career as a freelance photographer and photo editor. She worked as a photographer for the Associated Press in Paris, as an editor for Agence France-Presse in Paris and New Delhi, and also as a picture editor and photographer for Reuters in London and Paris, with a round in Baghdad, Iraq. In 2008, she joined the European Pressphoto Agency as a picture editor on the Frankfurt news desk in. In 2010, she was selected for the newly-established position of Chief Editorial Operations Middle East based in Cairo. In her new role, she organizes coverage from the Maghreb and Middle East countries and covers the most important events as a photographer herself. She heads a team of more than 15 staffers and regular stringers in the region.
