Mohamed Messara

Mohamed Messara was born in Algiers in 1976. After studying photography in his hometown, he started working for the Algerian press covering the bombings and terrorist attacks in Algeria. Before joining the European Pressphoto Agency (EPA) in 2003, Messara collaborated with Corbis Sygma for two years. For EPA, he mainly covers major news, features, and sports events. In 2004-2005, he was based in Baghdad. Later he covered the Lebanon War, the clashes between Palestinians and the Lebanese army, the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the referendum in South Sudan, as well as the civil war in Libya. In 2011, Messara exhibited his work on the war in Libya in Cairo’s American University Gallery.
