Nicolás Pereyra

Nicolás Pereyra is a photographer and chief photography editor of the newspaper El Pais in Montevideo, Uruguay.

He joined El Pais in 2005 as a photojournalist and has since documented different social and cultural events, including the World Cup in Brazil (2014), Russia (2018) and Qatar (2022). In 2015, he was appointed the chief photography editor, responsible for the daily organization of the section. His role involves evaluating and appointing photojournalists, providing clear directives for each coverage, and managing other organizational aspects such as selecting photographs for both the newspaper and supplements. Additionally, he coordinates a team of 10 photojournalists and oversees special photographic products on the website.

Alongside his role as a photo editor, Pereyra continues his own photographic practice. In 2012, Pereyra published his first book, Mandatory. In 2013 he published the second book, Ataraxia, with Ediciones de la Plaza. In 2016 he edited his first book, Long Distance, about a story that takes place in Jordan. In 2017 he exhibited his last work Not Everything Is For Sale, with Polaroid photographs. 

Since 2015, Pereyra has served as a professor of Photojournalism at the Faculty of Communication of the University of Montevideo. In 2016, he participated in the portfolio reviews of the SAN JOSÉ FOTO Festival and graduated as a University Expert in Applied Professional Photography from Miguel Hernandez University in Spain.
