Markus Schreiber was born in Bonn, Germany, and began his photojournalism career in 1991 as a photographer with the regional newspaper K├Âlnisch/Bonner Rundschau in Bonn. He moved to The Associated Press' Bonn office as a freelancer in the mid '90s and has been based out of their Berlin office since 1999.

As a wire service photographer, he has covered various national and international news and sports assignments across Europe and the Mideast, Asia and Africa. His past assignments have included the second intifada in Israel and Gaza in 2002, the Pakistan earthquake in 2005 and the 2012 Olympics in London.
