About

Veronica Cordeiro

Brazil

Veronica Cordeiro is a Brazilian artist, curator and writer based in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Her approach to making, curating and teaching photography emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary research. One of Cordeiro’s key interests is to study people’s behavioral relationship with photography, in order to promote greater awareness of its uses as well as possibilities.

Cordeiro began her curatorial career at the Bienal de São Paulo. Upon moving to Uruguay, in 2013 she was hired to create the curatorial department of the Centro de Fotografia de Montevideo (CdF), where she worked as chief curator until 2018. Since then, she has worked as an independent curator and artist, deepening her research into the power of photography and the creative process to produce change on both individual and social levels. She recently completed her first biographic novel based on the life of a Brazilian drug dealer who discovers art in prison and undergoes a profound process of growth and transformation, later becoming one of the most inspiring community leaders of São Paulo. In 2021, Cordeiro founded Tierra Art Platform, a space that gives visibility to art, photography and thought processes connected to nature and sustainability in Latin America.

Cordeiro has a Master of Arts in Art History from the University of Edinburgh and a Master in Visual Anthropology from Goldsmiths, University of London.
