In 2011, the Pedro Meyer Foundation (Fundación Pedro Meyer) joined forces with World Press Photo to offer a Diploma on Visual Storytelling and New Media with the aim to improve the production and distribution skills of visual journalists in Mexico and the wider region. Since the start of the partnership, 60 students have completed the diploma course.

Ten promising North African visual journalists have been selected to take part in the Reporting Change Multimedia Course, which aims to strengthen the multimedia storytelling skills of professionals working in Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia.

A committee has selected 10 photographers from the Reporting Change Storytelling workshops to receive a € 2000 grant in order to produce a story from the North African region.

Following recent discussion and speculation in the media about the photograph by Paul Hansen, selected as World Press Photo of the Year 2012 by the contest jury, World Press Photo has submitted the image files for a forensic analysis. The purpose of the investigation into the authenticity and editing history of the picture is to curtail any further speculation about the integrity of the image and to establish that it is not a composite.
