2021 World Press Photo Contests juries announced

Meet the juries of the 2021 Digital Storytelling Contest and 2021 Photo Contest 

We are pleased to introduce the professionals from around the world who will select and award the best visual journalism of 2020.

Entries for our 11th annual Digital Storytelling Contest and 64th annual Photo Contest are open until 13 January 2021 (deadline extended). After that, the 2021 Digital Storytelling Contest jury, chaired by Muyi Xiao, and the 2021 Photo Contest jury, chaired by NayanTara Gurung Kakshapati, will convene the judging.

For the first time, the judging process of the 2021 World Press Photo Contests will take place entirely online due to the pandemic.

2021 Digital Storytelling Contest jury

The Digital Storytelling Contest, open to short documentary film and interactive productions, recognizes and rewards forms of visual storytelling enabled by digital technologies. The jury will judge entries over several rounds between 16 January and 8 February 2021.


2021 Photo Contest jury

The judging process for the 2021 Photo Contest involves seven specialized juries and a general jury. The judging process involves several rounds over a six-week period, from 16 January to 23 February 2021.

Seven independent specialist juries first shortlists entries in eight categories.

    An independent General Jury, a different set of jurors consisting of the 2021 Photo Contest jury chair and six other members, then selects the winners. The General Jury is assisted by a secretary, responsible for all procedural matters and ensures the rules and procedures are fairly and properly applied.

    Entries for the 2021 Photo Contest and Digital Storytelling Contest are open until 13 January 2021, 12.00 (noon) CET. The contests are free to enter and open to all professional visual journalists and digital storytellers around the world. Help us get the best submissions for the independent jury to consider so we can spotlight the stories that matter!
