Open Call: Young Voices

Open call for young creators to cover our special event The Stories That Matter

Calling all storytellers: the World Press Photo Foundation has launched an open call for young creators to document and cover our special event The Stories That Matter.

Taking place on Saturday 13 May 2023 at the Flagship World Press Photo Exhibition 2023 in De Nieuwe Kerk, Amsterdam, this day will involve a program of talks, workshops and tours, where the winning photographers of the 2023 World Press Photo Contest will take part.

We’re inviting young voices across the Netherlands to be a part of the day and to creatively cover the events that take place. More information about the program will be announced soon. 

Who is eligible to apply?

We invite applicants who are:

  • Between the ages of 18-30
  • Currently enrolled in an educational institution in the Netherlands
  • Active on social media, with more than 1,000 followers on at least one of their social accounts
  • Interested in photography, photojournalism, documentary filming, communications, content creation and/or journalism
  • Involved with projects/institutions that deal with issues like the climate crisis, migration, identity, social inclusion, rights of marginalized people and press freedom (optional)

What do we offer?

  • Free access to The Stories That Matter special event
  • Travel allowance if traveling to Amsterdam from within the Netherlands
  • Lunch allowance
  • Amplification of content produced via World Press Photo’s channels (for example on social media, website and newsletters as seen fit by the World Press Photo Communications team)
  • Networking and development opportunities during the event

What do we require from you?

  • Links to social media channels that have the required number of followers, clearly indicating which mode of communication you would like to use (for example, photo, video, writing, reels, audio, etc.)
  • A selection of previous content covering social causes, photography, exhibitions that you consider relevant (for example, write-up on social media, a link to a podcast, or a vlog)
  • A couple of paragraphs indicating why you should be selected, also outlining how it can be helpful for your growth and learning
