Ernesto Bazan

Ernesto Bazan was born in Palermo in 1959. He received his first camera when he was 14 years old and began photographing daily life in his native city and in the rural areas of Sicily. Since then, photography has become more than a profession; it's a true passion, a mission in his life.

Bazan has won some of the world’s most prestigious photographic awards, among them first prize in the World Press Photo Contest, The W. Eugene Smith Grant, and the Dorothea Lange–Paul Taylor Prize, among others. He has also published several books, including The Perpetual Past, and showcased his work in exhibitions in Europe, Latin America and the United States.

In 2002, he created his own photographic workshops with a focus on Latin America. Several hundred students have studied with him in the last twelve years. He lives in Veracruz, Mexico with his family and their dog, Diva.
