Davina Jogi

Zimbabwe

Davina Jogi is a documentary photographer, and the founder and co-director of the Zimbabwe Association of Female Photographers (ZAFP), which provides practical support and project- based training to women photographers. 
 
Davina Jogi holds a BA (Hons) in African Studies from the University of Cape Town and is a graduate of the Market Photo Workshop. She began her photography career working as a picture editor at The Times newspaper in Johannesburg before returning home to Zimbabwe to work as a freelancer.
 
Jogi has received a number of grants and awards for her work including a 2013 National Arts Merit Award – the premier award given by the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe in recognition of outstanding achievements in the field of arts and culture. Her photography has been exhibited in Southern Africa, Europe, the United States and Australia, and her images from the November 2017 de facto coup in Zimbabwe were featured in the National Gallery of Zimbabwe’s display at the FNB JoburgArtFair and Addis Foto Fest the following year. More recently she was a finalist in the Perth Centre of Photography’s 2020 CLIP Exhibition.
 
In 2019, Davina Jogi served on the World Press Photo Contest News and Documentary Photography jury and continues to act as a nominator for their 6x6 Global Talent Program which identifies under-recognized work in each continent.
 
She is currently pursuing a Master of Philosophy in Media, Culture and Creative Arts at Curtin University, investigating her own hybrid identity as an ethnically diverse African immigrant in Australia.
