He is founder and creative director of D Griffin Studio. The studio’s work includes: art directing “The Good Fight,” published by Against All Odds Productions; creative direction of the American Society of Media Photographers; art directing Smithsonian’s travel quarterly Journeys magazine; redesign of Atlantic Media’s National Journal Daily and National Wildlife Federation’s Wildlife magazine.
Prior to starting the studio, David was visuals editor of The Washington Post and held a number of positions at National Geographic including: executive editor of E-Publishing, director of photography of National Geographic magazine, design director of books and deputy layout editor of NG magazine. David has worked in design and photography departments of U.S. News & World Report, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Hartford Courant, The Everett (WA) Herald and The Columbia (MO) Daily Tribune. He is a graduate of Ohio University and an alum of Stanford’s Professional Publishing Program.
David is on the board of Eddie Adams Workshop, an advisor for The Virginia Quarterly Review and The International League of Conservation Photographers. He was a founding board member of LOOK3: The Festival of Photograph.
He has been on the juries of World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year International, Society of Publication Design, Communication Arts, Visa pour L’Image, the Getty Grant, the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards, among others. He is a nominator for the Prix Prictet.
