Hicham Gardaf

After having photographed his own neighbourhood and its inhabitants for a number of years, Gardaf started a series of projects: "Intersections" (2014-ongoing), "Provisional Structures" (2015-ongoing), and "The Red Square" (2015-ongoing), which depict the newly transformed communities in the Moroccan suburbs, exploring the changes in the environments, the results of unplanned suburban structures, and the formation of new landscapes.

His recent exhibitions include Identités à venir at Bibliothèque Nationale de France in Paris in 2017; Excursion at Fondation Abderahman Slaoui in Casablanca in 2016; and Histoire(s) Contemporaine(s) at Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris in 2015.

In 2015 he received the Arab Fund for Art and Culture, Arab Documentary Photography Grant and his work has been exhibited in Casablanca, Paris, and Brussels, among other places. His work has been published in many publications, including Slanted Magazine, Le Monde, La Vanguardia, and Libération.

Hicham was selected to take part in the Joop Swart Masterclass 2017.
