Marcelle Hopkins

Before joining The Times, she produced and directed virtual reality documentaries for FRONTLINE, the Brown Institute for Media Innovation and Emblematic Group.

Marcelle spent seven years at Al Jazeera's United Nations bureau, where she produced TV news, interviews, features and documentaries. In 2014, she wrote and produced an interactive documentary on Sri Lanka’s recovery from civil war, which won a UN Foundation Prize and a Horizon Interactive Award.

In the past two years, Marcelle has received a reporting fellowship from the International Women's Media Foundation, a Magic Grant from the Brown Institute for Media Innovation, and a Ford Foundation JustFilms fellowship at the Made in NY Media Center by IFP.

Marcelle holds a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
