Michael Friedel (Munich, Germany, 1935) has been working as a professional photographer and photojournalist since 1954. After winning the Photokina prize in Cologne in 1954, his career quickly took off. In 1962, he joined Stern magazine in Hamburg, but returned to freelance work in 1968. He regularly contributed photos to Stern, Geo and other international magazines.
