Raghu Rai is a photographer and photo editor from India. He started in photography at 23 as the chief photographer for The Statesman, an Indian daily newspaper. Soon after, he became the picture editor for Sunday, a weekly magazine in Calcutta. In 1977, he joined Magnum Photo, while taking the position of Photo Editor and Photographer for India Today from 1982 to 1991.
He has been awarded the Padmashree award, one of India’s premier civilian awards, among other international awards. His work has been featured in numerous publications, such as Time, The New York Times and Vogue, as well as in an impressive number of books. His work in exhibitions have been shown all over the globe.
Today, Raghu Rai lives in New Delhi with his family and continues to be an associate of Magnum Photo.
