Ricardo Mazalan


Ricardo Mazalan studied at the University of Buenos Aires prior to joining the Associated Press (AP) in Bogotá, Colombia, in 1990. Since then, he has worked in dozens of countries all over the world.

In 1994 he moved to Nairobi as AP's chief photographer for East Africa and documented civil war and conflict in Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi and Congo. He has covered sports events like the Olympics and soccer World Cups.

Mazalan has photographed and organized coverage in most Latin American countries including such stories as the drug wars and insurgency in Colombia, political unrest in Haiti and Venezuela, and some major natural disasters. He oversaw AP’s regional coverage for Latin America and the Caribbean in 2005-2006. He currently serves as photo editor for AP in Bogotá.
