Arie Basuki


Arie Basuki is a photojournalist based in Jakarta, Indonesia, working for Merdeka.com. 

As a photojournalist covering various events in Indonesia, Arie Basuki takes a social anthropological approach that emphasizes sympathy and empathy to capture in-depth moments.

He has documented major stories and events such as the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the Aceh and Poso conflict, the arrest of illegal migrant workers in Kuala Lumpur, and the Libyan Civil War.

Arie Basuki has been the recipient of several awards, both in Indonesia and internationally, such as the Anugerah Adiwarta (2007), Mochtar Lubis Award (2008), Nikon Indonesia Photo Journalism category (2016), PFI Indonesian Photo Journalist Award (2019), Asian Press Photo Singapore 2022 and Environment Photographer of The Year Award 2022 (EPOTY).
