Geovanny 'Gato' Villegas Sánchez

Gato Villegas Sánchez lives in Quito, Ecuador. He is a cultural and audiovisual producer, interested in the dialogue between art and documentary as a way to renew its narrative. Through teaching, Villegas Sánchez applies aesthetic research and pedagogy methods, advising artists in their creative processes to concretize their work.

In 2000, he founded vsfoto.net, an independent platform that uses images in social projects, learning, visual production, exhibition making and publishing. In 2017, he opened El fotolaboratorio, a photochemical laboratory in Casa Mitómana, Ecuador, and in 2014 he co-founded Asociación de Fotógrafos Ecuatorianos, an Ecuadorian group of professional photographers.

Villegas Sánchez has produced several photo documentary festivals in Ecuador. He has collaborated, organized and curated exhibitions in photo festivals, where he has also been a reviewer and speaker. He was a member of the qualifying committee for several master's visual studies projects. 

Villegas Sánchez has a degree in Social Communication, studied photography and has a master's degree in Cultural Studies with a Mention in Cultural Policies at UASB.
