Jan Sonnenmair is a photojournalist and commercial photographer living in Portland, United States. Her work focuses on human-centred stories, often exploring personal experiences and social realities.
She began her career as a staff photographer at The Dallas Morning News and has since worked internationally on editorial and commercial assignments for magazines and corporate clients.
Sonnenmair has received several awards, including in the 1993 World Press Photo Contest for a four-year project documenting the life of a child living with AIDS.
In 2016, she was selected as a Knight Fellow at Ohio University, where she completed a master’s degree in visual communication.
