Janne E. Nijman

The Netherlands

Janne E. Nijman is a professor of History and Theory of International Law at the University of Amsterdam and a professor of International Law at the Geneva Graduate Institute. Previously, she was the chair of the executive board and academic director of the T.M.C. Asser Instituut in the Hague. 

Nijman is also a member of the supervisory board of PAX for Peace, a member of the International Jury of the United Cities and Local Governments’ UCLG Peace Prize, and a member of the international International Gender Champion network on gender equality. Nijman is a co-chair of the International Law Association’s Study Group on the role of cities in international law and an advisory editor of the London Review of International Law

Per 1 January 2023, Janne Nijman has been appointed a member of the supervisory board of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and a member of the International Affairs Advisory Council (Adviesraad Internationale Vraagstukken).
