David Hurn

David Hurn is a self-taught photographer. He first gained an International reputation through his coverage of the Hungarian Revolution, and became a full member of Magnum Photos in 1967.

He now mainly works on very personal stories “spotlighting the ambiguities and eccentricities of the human experience”. In 1973 he set up the school of Documentary photography in Newport, Wales. 

Since resigning in 1989 he has conducted numerous workshops, in Arles (twice), Venice, New Zealand, and IPC New York, among others. He was recently awarded status of ‘Icon of Photography’.
