About

Rehab Eldalil

Egypt

Rehab Eldalil is a documentary photographer, visual storyteller and educator based in Egypt. Her work focuses on the broad theme of identity explored through participatory creative practices.

Eldalil works on personal projects with NGOs and publications documenting human interest stories in the SWANA region. In her practice, she explores challenging traditional documentary frameworks by developing methods to involve subjects to become participants in the creative process. Eldalil experiments with multimedia to develop layered and comprehensive visual narratives that challenge the exoticism of communities, including her own as an African and Arabic woman.

Her long-term project The Longing Of The Stranger Whose Path Has Been Broken was developed under AFAC & Magnum Foundation’s ADPProgram 2020, National Geographic Society’s Emergency grant for Journalists 2020 and Creative Activism award 2021. She was awarded the FotoEvidence W Award 2022 to publish her project as a book, the Premi Mediterrani Albert Camus award 2022 and Photo Frome Photobook Award 2023. This book was launched in early 2023.

Her work has been exhibited around the world including in Egypt, USA, UK, Germany, Brazil, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Canada and Greece.

Eldalil is a member of the African Photojournalism Database, a directory of emerging and professional African visual journalists established by the World Press Photo Foundation and Everyday Africa.
