Rencontres d’Arles

World Press Photo is pleased to present a series of workshops at the Rencontres d’Arles photography festival in July 2025.

The workshops will take place daily 8-12 July at the FUJIKINA space, where we will explore new forms of documentary photography and the evolving language of visual narratives; spanning topics such as personal storytelling, artistic documentary practices, community engagement, and the power of editing and multimedia.

Each session is led by a leading voice in photography, bringing together a diverse group of photographers, editors, curators, and visual storytellers from around the world.
The program reflects World Press Photo’s commitment to support emerging and established photographers, fostering inclusive, critical, and innovative storytelling practices. We invite you to join us for five afternoons of thoughtful conversation and hands-on learning.

Musuk Nolte – Confronting Urgent Social Issues: Where Documentary Meets Art

Photographer and editor Musuk Nolte explores how to merge documentary and artistic photography to address pressing social issues like memory, community, and environmental degradation. Learn how to collaborate with communities, craft poetic yet grounded narratives, and create conceptual, imaginative work rooted in reality.

Aliona Kardash - Personal Narrative in Long-Term Projects

Documentary photographer Aliona Kardash shares how personal history and identity can deepen storytelling. This session will help participants develop narrative structures for emotionally resonant, long-form projects that explore culture, memory, and belonging.

Maíra C. Gamarra – Editing for Visual Narratives

Curator Maíra C. Gamarra leads a workshop on the art of editing photographic work into cohesive, impactful visual stories. Discover how to build meaning, rhythm, and perspective through image selection and sequencing, and approach editing as an intentional, critical process.

Randa Mirza – Expanding Visual Narratives Through Mixed Media

Artist Randa Mirza invites participants to push the boundaries of documentary storytelling using video, sound, performance, and installation. Drawing from her own interdisciplinary work, she offers tools to explore new forms of expression and challenge conventional visual narratives.
