Diego Ibarra Sánchez

Diego Ibarra Sánchez is a visual storyteller based in Lebanon.
Ibarra Sánchez has documented key global conflicts, including the wars in Syria, Ukraine, Iraq, and Lebanon, the Yazidi genocide, the war against polio, and humanitarian crises such as the floods in Pakistan and earthquakes in Türkiye and Nepal. He lived for nearly five years in Pakistan, and has worked in Afghanistan and Nigeria.
Since 2012, he has been a regular contributor to The New York Times. He collaborates with major organizations including UNICEF and UNHCR, is a Canon Spain PRO MASTER, and a lecturer in visual storytelling. His awards include an acknowledgement for the Pulitzer Prize (2023), POY Asia (2024), NPPA (2025), and Getty Images. His work has been exhibited worldwide.
His photobook The Phoenician Collapse (2022), which explores Lebanon’s deterioration, earned international acclaim, including Best Independent Book of 2022 by the Lucie Foundation.
