Alice Martins

Alice Martins is a freelance photojournalist covering humanitarian crises and armed conflict in the Middle East.

Born in 1980 and raised by the Atlantic ocean in southern Brazil, she started photographing with a Kodak Instamatic camera in 1989.

She is currently based in Iraq, documenting the war against ISIS and its aftermath, and the broader conflict in Syria since 2012.

Her work has been featured on Harper's, The Smithsonian, TIME, Stern, Der Spiegel, among other publications. She is a regular contributor to The Washington Post.
