Almudena Toral

She heads the feature visuals team at Univision News Digital, coordinating documentary film, photography, illustration and animation coverage for stories in the United States and Latin America.

Previously, Toral taught video storytelling at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism in New York City, whilst also working on her own projects worldwide for clients such as The Guardian, AlJazeera, VICE, The New York Times, TIME and Canal+. Prior to freelancing, Almudena worked at The New York Times and TIME.

Toral is the recipient of several awards, including an Emmy Award for her contribution to The New York Times project “Life, Interrupted", a POYi’s Award of Excellence – Multimedia Photographer of the Year, and among others from Pictures of the Year International, RFK Human Rights Journalism Awards, PDN, the National Press Photographers Association, the Webbies, and The Deadline Press Club. Toral has degrees from Johns Hopkins University (SAIS), City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism and Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She is a member of Fotovisura/GUILD.
