Great expectations

Anna and Thea are two sisters growing up in a small town on the island of Funen, Denmark. Anna and Thea are identical twins and were both born with albinism. Aged 16, the sisters are still kids but on the verge of becoming adults. Great Expectations is an exploration of Anna’s and Thea’s relationship and their transition into adolescence and adulthood. The project reflects on their bond and intimate friendship; the feeling of having a life partner who not only shares a biological and genetic background, but who also looks like you and goes through the same stages in life.

“I am interested in their connection and what that level of intimacy looks like, but even more so, what it feels like for them,” says the photographer.

2020 Joop Swart Masterclass

For the first time, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Joop Swart Masterclass took place online over a period of four months, and 24 participants and eight masters were selected to make the program more inclusive. The educational experience of the Joop Swart Masterclass is based on an assignment to produce a photo essay around a given theme. This year the theme was ‘Reset’.

From July to October 2020, the participants worked on their projects and received mentorship and guidance from the mentors.
