The Washington Post

Last year, an unprecedented number of people—more than 65 million—were displaced by war and persecution according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Their individual stories were multi-layered, defined not only by what they left behind in the midst of war, but also by what they lost along the way as they pushed towards the west. Their stories needed to be told with the same complexity as their reality.

To delve into this complexity, The Washington Post built an innovative video interactive called The Waypoint, that focuses in on one location: Lesbos, Greece, an important stop for many refugees on their journey toward safety. The Waypoint immerses the viewer in the emotional experience of moving from one end of Lesbos to the other.
